Last year, we took a look at the enormity of the Waste Management Open at TPC Scottsdale. It gets bigger every year, so let's look at some updated numbers.
A record total 655,434 people attended the 2017 Waste Management Open. 204,906 of those people were there on the busiest day, Saturday. That's almost three NFL stadiums' worth of people on a golf course in one day.
The 16th hole has a capacity of 20,000, which is larger than most sold-out NCAA basketball stadium crowds.
Tents, skyboxes and the various structures built around the course typically begin construction around four months before the tournament.
A Skybox on the 16th Hole starts at $50,000 for a package that includes 34 badges per day and 20 general admission passes per day. The best part of it though, is complimentary breakfast, lunch, and open bar. No wonder it's so loud.
The economic impact of the event on the Phoenix region is close to $250 million. Around $9 million is raised for local charities by the Phoenix special events committee, the Thunderbirds.
Just for Fun
Over 140,000 used golf balls are used to build the WM water feature on the 18th hole. That's 1,750 large buckets on the driving range.
